Minimum
Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree

7-10 years retail experience within
store operations combined with category management is essential

7-10 years management experience is
essential

Advanced computer literacy (Excel &

Duties
& Responsibilities
·
Develop and execute effective
negotiating strategies that result in win-win agreements of long-term benefit
to the organization and enhance long-term relationships
·
Foster a controlled environment to
ensure legal and financial risks are mitigated and minimized, leveraging a
network of functional experts
·
Oversee the annual negotiation cycle to
achieve optimal margins, conditions and bonuses; approve agreement structure
alternatives for large-scale, unique, or complex negotiations and agreements
·
Determine the strategic value of
individual supplier relationships; drive the evolution of key supplier
relationships into long-term strategic partnerships; leverage partnerships to
create unique, high-impact growth opportunities; determine when supplier relationships
need to be rationalized
·
Proactively identify key suppliers to
focus collaborative efforts; create and sustain a collaborative environment
where suppliers are actively engaged in the achievement of current and future
business goals
·
Align the supplier community in support
of Pick n Pay’s values, buying strategies, and corporate initiatives by
facilitating the development of a shared agenda, and maintaining momentum if
change becomes difficult
·
Develop and implement multi-year Own
Brand strategy to build margin, customer loyalty and differentiation in the
marketplace; including strategic supplier partner development
·
Authorise delisting of suppliers and
handle escalated supplier issues
·
Anticipate changes in industry,
merchandise, and lifestyle trends to develop a cohesive picture of
category-specific merchandising needs and evolving member insights; and
forecast the impact on these changes on long-term buying strategy
·
Maintain and share current, in-depth
knowledge of the industry and suppliers; leverage knowledge of industry
practices, business trends, distribution methods, and the competitive
environment to develop strategic supplier relationships and buying plans
·
Develop and direct the execution of
category-specific growth strategies that consistently meet or exceed company
and divisions’ expectations; and align with evolving category initiatives and
Pick n Pay’s overall business strategy
·
Develop and implement approaches that
improve performance, quality, work efficiency and/or reduce costs for category;
identify complex, cross-functional process improvements impacting functional
areas; recommends improvements to leadership across the organization
·
Maintain close oversight of the
transition of strategy into practice / implementation and continuously identify
the effectiveness thereof
·
Plan and over the execution of
merchandising efforts consistent with overall merchandising strategy,
leveraging in-depth knowledge of Pick n Pay’s store formats
·
Oversee the running of in-store
butcheries by ensuring the strategies for different store formats are executed
optimally for profitability.
·
Ensure quality and food safety standards
are met by having quality frameworks in place for suppliers and stores
·
Communicate the results of complex
analyses to diverse audiences and develop methods to ensure understanding of
trends and business impact
·
Maintain oversight and provide guidance
in developing budgets and monitoring expenditures against plans; and make
improvements to budgets based on knowledge of financial data and history
·
Leverage financial data to identify the
key factors affecting financial performance, predict trends, and forecast
future financials
